Biography

Moises Gante is an aspiring artist that was born and raised in the small city of Madera, located in California. Moises began his journey into art because of his older cousins, who would doodle goofy drawings of faces, cartoon and video game characters, celebrities, and any other silly ideas that they thought of.

Though these drawings were only intended to bring about laughter, Moises saw a skill that he immensely desired to have. Moises wanted to wield the same magic which his older cousins possessed. How could they so simply use a pencil and bring forth whatever came to their mind? From then on, Moises began doodling on his own, striving to be able to draw just as well as his older cousins.

He began with simple stick figures and animals, which evolved over time. After years of personal practice, Moises had developed that magical skill he once witnessed in awe. Currently, Moises continues to wield this magic to express and explore his interests as well as ideas which peak his curiosity.

Artist Statement

Art for me, is an exploration. My driving force is that I want to depict that which I have not. I am a very visual individual, and so I strive to discover ways to visualize everything found within my mind; interests, emotions, confusion, understanding, perception, etc. The thought of sticking to one path in art is always puzzling to me. How does one decide that they will solely depict one concept or only use one medium? I will never know. Art takes numerous forms and to me, that means I have a whole world to explore and visually express to everyone with my artwork.

My art is influenced by what I see as I go about my life. One of the beautiful things about life is that the universe is constantly changing, evolving into something new. What I see on social media will be different, what I see in nature will be different, and even my perception of the same thing is subject to change. These differences come together at different points in time, and eventually give me that lightbulb with an idea for an artwork that has conjured into a visual form.

I am constantly experimenting with my art, and it is apparent through the variation between my artworks. Depending on what I am in the process of creating, I am using different mediums, different supports, different concepts, different techniques, different colors, etc. What is important to me is that what I make is visually appealing and something worth viewing. The way that my artwork looks is based upon what my mind feels would provide the best portrayal of my ideas.

Despite my experimentation, you will note that my art is on the more naturalistic side of the spectrum. I render my subject matter with close consideration of the details that help create illusionistic form. My mark-making will take into account: light, relative scale, placement, overlapping, texture, atmospheric perspective, and diagonal relationships. Of course, depending on my experimentation with my art, there could be intentional exceptions.
